A major fire hit Cleveland Wednesday August 1st, 2007 at approximately 7:15pm. Consuming much of the manufacturing and warehouse facilities of Wisconsin Box Company, mutual aid responded from as far away as Kiel and Two Rivers. More than 200 firefighters from 17 fire departments battled the blaze and stayed on throughout most of the night. With as many as 15 nozzles running, the hydrant water was drawn down quickly and was complicated by the loss of power more or less throughout the community, including the multiple municipal water pumps. Pumpers and tankers then resorted to Lake Michigan waters until late into the evening when power was restored and the pumps restarted. A big thank you to all those who helped protect the rest of our community and to those that supported these heroic firefighters and EMT's!! Click here for photos.
